Project Development: Stages

Development for any project, i.e. 'data / information gathering & reporting', is typically broken down into four stages:

  • Initial designs or drafts of as many parts of a new system as possible.
  • This is usually the result of gathering as much input as possible from all types of potential end users.
  • Important: we always use Draw.io to create a flowchart to visualize all parts and steps.
  • Note: this is not a usable working system.

  • The first complete system that can be considered usable, but it will have bugs and will need more development.
  • The main purpose of 'beta' is so that a limited amount of real (internal) end users test what has been developed, to give feedback for further development.
  • This level would be too raw to release company wide.

  • The first real working version that can be used in production by a larger group of users.
  • All major bugs have been resolved, however, 'refinements' (end user requests) will most likely be necessary.

  • Either the final working production version (99% of refinements complete) or beginning of next agreed upon milestones (i.e. v.3.0, v.4.0, etc.)
